At the packed Borussia Dortmund’s home stadium in Germany, fans benefit from ubiquitous Wi-Fi access to not only share exciting moments of the high voltage sporting action, but also enjoy video playbacks and online interaction. Huawei’s Agile Stadium Solution has been the backbone for Borussia Dortmund to achieve an all-wireless coverage and high-speed network access for up to 80,000 fans inside the stadium. “Our WLAN products have been deployed in more than 20 world-renowned stadiums and leading colleges and universities,” says Jane Fu, WLAN Product Director of Huawei Switch & Enterprise Communications Product Line.

Huawei’s complete WLAN products and solutions accommodate the wireless network requirements of a variety of application scenarios that span sectors such as government, telecom carriers, finance, education, healthcare, and transportation. The wide range of products also caters to multiple scenarios where wireless bridges are used, such as digital ports, wireless data backhaul, wireless video surveillance, and train-to-ground backhaul.

It was in December 2015, that Huawei rolled out its Agile Distributed Wi-Fi Solution, which uses Access Points (APs) as basic Remote Radio Units (RRUs) to the global market. A high-performance central AP added between the Access Controller and other APs, connects to downlink RRUs and takes charge of data computing of the RRUs—improving data processing and roaming performance while reducing the number of management nodes by at least 90 percent. “The solution directly deploys RRUs inside school dormitories and hotel rooms, addressing the twin problems of signal coverage holes due to a large number of rooms and walls, and access for a high density of users,” explains Jane. In an implementation highlight, Huawei provided the Newcastle University a 100G core, 10G aggregation, and full- Gigabit Wi-Fi campus network solution which improved network operational efficiency and met the client’s bandwidth requirements over the next 10 years.

Accelerating its pace of launching next-generation WLAN products, Huawei’s 802.11ac Wave 2 APs deliver a 2.5 Gbps wireless access capability, with the ability to easily process bursty traffic. Huawei’s wired and wireless convergence solution resolves multiple problems such as two independent networks—wired and wireless—complex configurations, and inconsistent user experiences. The firm’s added emphasis is on building a three-dimensional security defense network by providing an End-To-End (E2E) Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solution that enables air interface security, data link encryption, and Wide Area Network (WAN) security—implementing full-scale protection.

Huawei also offers an Agile Mobile Solution that converges Wi-Fi and LTE technologies, lowering network construction costs of enterprises and carriers while improving operational efficiency. Additionally, the firm’s cloud-managed solution for the SMB market simplifies the network deployment and management.

“Our focus is to remain customer and market-oriented and not focused exclusively on technology,” remarks Jane. Huawei has built 28 innovation centers in collaboration with customers around the world. These are the discovery hubs of crucial innovation breakthroughs and act as test centers while integrating global resources to accelerate the firm’s competitiveness.

As a leading Information and Communications Technology player, Huawei continues to invest resources into its 2012 Laboratories that provide significant expert resources for prospective WLAN technology standard formulation and research. The focus is on technological innovations in the system architecture and enhancing wireless performance of products in different scenarios. “In addition to traditional box Access Controllers (ACs), our focus will be on the wired and wireless convergence ACs and cloud-managed ACs, which will be the mainstream models for campuses, higher and general education, and enterprises with multiple branches,” concludes Jane.
